My First Time Pregnancy Journey

Coming October 2023

Hey guys if you haven’t found out by now I’m pregnant!!

We are absolutely thrilled and can’t wait to have a baby boy in late October. With all the anticipation comes some anxiety as well… From what I heard is very normal during pregnancy, especially for first time mommas going through this. It’s just been my husband and I for almost the past 10 years so we are going to have a whole lifestyle change but we couldn’t be happier. I’m currently 20 weeks and 3 days, very grateful to have reached this far in the pregnancy! With almost being halfway done here are some things I’ve learned so far about being pregnant:

When you are younger and you envision becoming pregnant it seems like this super quick and not very time consuming process. Your life as you knew before drastically changes and with it comes every life style change possible. No more alcohol (which I miss my glass of wine so much), no more heavy duty exercise, no smoking, you need plenty of rest so no more all nighters, no more spontaneous wild evenings with friends, your whole wardrobe is going to change cause nothing fits you, your friend group can often change during this lifestyle transition and I’ve experienced recently how isolating it can be and I for sure have had FOMO from my old lifestyle habits less than 6 months ago.

Working as a hairdresser during this time has been quite the challenge cause of how active you are throughout the day and I for sure have had to cut hours and step back from long days on my feet for the sake of creating a healthy/happy baby which can make you feel like you’re not working as hard. Or at least my mindset before was always about what I can do to add more value to my work.

With all these sudden and limiting changes however I’m learning comes so many other challenges that are preparing you to become a new person in just a few weeks. Without these strict tasks you have to abide by during these 9 months I wouldn’t have ever imagined how healthy all the new tasks I’ve learned have become for myself. There is so much goodness ahead with the discipline I’ve put in the past few weeks that now all those old lifestyle choices I used to make don’t sound appealing at all.

I don’t drink so I’m never hungover, I get to indulge in new and delicious foods that are nutritious and good for the baby and I, I rest most frequently then I used to, I take long strolls in my beautiful neighborhood more frequently, my friends that have stuck with me though this process of becoming a mom are ones who will be life long, my partner and I have become closer and stronger during this time and ultimately all those “strict” lifestyle style changes are making me become a healthier person. In just a few weeks I’ll get the ultimate reward from this journey, meeting and raising our son.

Seeing the body change is such a blessing and not only is it the outer shell that changes so much during this time but your soul does as well. This is a journey I’ve been taking the time to document so I can remember all these little moments that will be gone in 4 months. Pregnancy is hard, pregnancy is a miracle, pregnancy is a journey for sure but pregnancy has been beautiful so far!
